The Elusive Virtue
“(Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)” Numbers 12:3
The irony of such a statement is that the most humble of men wouldn’t care about being remembered this way. Moses was so close to God, so connected to Him, that Moses didn’t care what others thought. He simply wanted a relationship with God. He simply wanted to serve God.
Humility is that virtue that is only achieved when your accomplishments don’t matter anymore. If you care what boxes you can check or how many trophies you have, you aren’t humble. And, if we are to be like Christ, we must be humble.
Think about it, if He were not humble, where would we be? Would He have chosen to save us? Would He have chosen to offer up Himself for our sake?
No, that’s an amazing humility that we should attempt to mimic:
“If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” Philippians 2:1-3
Be humble. You really have no business acting otherwise.
