A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

Out of Time

It has been stated, and rationally so, that humans have no concept of anything that does not have a beginning or an end. Therefore, we hit a brick wall in our brain when we try to understand eternity. I always thought eternity started when we died and went on forever, which is a very long time, before it ends. It was the best I could do.

We need a beginning and an end just so we can ask, “What happened before the beginning and what happens after the end?” The answer is eternity and eternity is the absence of time. There is no time where God resides. The universe is on the clock and it is winding down to a stalemate at which time nothing will happen. Because it is between the brackets of “Start” and “Stop” it had a beginning and it will have an end. Anything that has a beginning has a creator and, in the case of the universe, the creator has to live in eternity without the constraints of time. It is important to grasp this concept, because a lot goes on in eternity.

“who has saved us and called us to a holy life–not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,” 2 Timothy 1:9

“a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time.” Titus 1:2

We need to understand that before God set the universe in motion, He had all His ducks in a row and that’s why we can believe in His promises. God has a plan for the universe and everyone in it.
