A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

If you think about it, truth is a narrow path. What I mean is that the trip to discovery starts out wide, but in the end the truth lands in one specific spot and, as we declare it, we can be accused of being narrow. I attribute this to feelings people have about the truth. Look, four plus four equals eight to everybody everywhere and feelings play no part in the truth of the answer. Four of anything plus four of anything else anywhere is a total of eight. To those people that get it wrong and do not want to admit it, either because they are rebellious or they cannot add, it doesn’t change the fact.

When I am showing homes or property, the conversations about size can run to feelings. “It feels larger than 2500 square feet.” “I know this home is larger, but the other one felt like it had more space.” The person’s feelings are usually set aside when they begin to move in their furniture. “I thought it would all fit, but now that we have the big screen TV, the piano, Mom’s hutch, the couch, and the two recliners, and the dining room table in here, it doesn’t feel as big as when we looked at it.”

You see, feelings have nothing to do with square footage. It comes down to the fact that, when we are faced with a truth, we react to it with feelings and, at first, we accept or reject it based on our feelings. God says don’t have sex with someone that is not your spouse. “Wait! That doesn’t make me feel good. I’d rather tune out Scripture and tune in the old favorite, ‘It can’t be wrong when it feels so right’.”

“Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” John 18:37

Here is someone that is confronted face-to-face with ultimate truth. Pilate is under huge pressure from the Jews and his own Roman politics and he makes the fatal mistake of letting his feelings concerning his own situation blind him. He did not want to explore any further. Life’s pressures were too much. He hates his job and where he lives so he just shrugs his shoulders and says:

“Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them,” I find no guilt in Him.” ” John 18:38

Don’t let your feelings overwhelm you. Don’t let your feelings blind you. Stay in the Word and stay in contact with God. Your individual feelings have nothing to do with the truth.
