A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

Some people will never get it! Some people insist upon self-destruction. Some people seem to be, and may be, unreachable. These people are made in the image of God and have the opportunity to recognize who they are and who Jesus Christ is and what He has done for them. The reality is that some people will just never get it. It may be that their behavior will be used by God to help someone else get it!

“The Lord has made everything for its own purpose,
Even the wicked for the day of evil.” Proverbs 16:4

I like how Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary puts it:

“God makes use of the wicked to execute righteous vengeance on each other; and he will be glorified by their destruction at last.”

Now, does this mean that God will be jumping up and down because someone is lost? Does the fact that He will be glorified mean He needs people to miss out on Heaven in order to boost His ego? the answer is no to both. The destruction of the wicked just means God is right and they are wrong. Each person is destined to be in Heaven. It is planned and designed by God that every person will be in right relationship with Him. Some people will just not get it!

We sometimes stress about this fact because we see these people on destructive paths and there is nothing we can do but watch as they go over the cliff. I suspect that the harshest reality is that we understand that the only difference between us and them was one decision and commitment. It is rather like watching a party barge made of ice sailing off to the Bahamas. All the people are saying things like, “We’ll be okay!” or “This is for us because you only go around once!” or “It can’t be wrong because it feels so right.” The reality is that it’s one boat you want to miss.
