A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

Reserved Joy

It is easy to equate joy with good times, but not so easy when the times turn harsh. The truth is that joy is independent of circumstances. Knowing that your belief in Christ is a forever thing and not limited to your time on earth is cause for real joy. Circumstances come and go. There is real truth in the old saying, “If it isn’t one darn thing, it’s another.” Why is it true? It’s true because we live in a fallen world and, like the tides, our lives will contain good and bad, trial and triumph. Joy, on the other hand, is fixed and outside of circumstance. It is just vanity to think that you can only have joy when times are good because you cannot lose what has been set aside for you in Heaven.

“to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.” 1 Peter 1:4

I don’t know about you, but I am plenty happy about that regardless of what’s going on in my life.
