A Winning Situation
When you find yourself in the position of knowing that you know, it is often that you know your failings and, like a son that is accountable to an earthly father, you know sooner or later that your weak points may be exposed. Now, add to that the fact that you know that you know. So, you ask God to help you rid yourself of bad habits, failings, and the rest in order to make yourself more like Jesus.
I love my Lord and I know a lot about His character, but I am terrible at knowing His methodology when it comes to working the kinks out of my life. I pray, “Help me, Father, become more like Jesus.” I know He will oblige, but like the son that is fearful of the statement, “Son, step in here. I want to talk to you,” I am not sure of the reason for the meeting. Will it be a pat on the back or a swat on the backside? I am willing to accept His adoration and discipline, but it is the obviousness or the shame of the cleansing that falls into the same category as not fearing death, just the method. Imperfection is, without a doubt, the pits. The Christian knows this but has no recourse but to compare himself to Jesus Christ. The unbeliever just kicks into situational thinking and produces a reason.
“Thus you are to know in your heart that the Lord your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son.” Deuteronomy 8:5
The perfect Father and the imperfect son. It’s hard to explain to a non-believer how this is a winning situation.
