Prepare to be Chosen
When God chooses you, how will you respond? Will you deflect the commission? Will you run? Or, will you accept? Will you step forward?
Israel’s first impression of each of her first two kings was quite instructive.
Samuel was holding a choosing ceremony to show Israel her first king:
“Then he brought forward the tribe of Benjamin, clan by clan, and Matri’s clan was chosen. Finally Saul son of Kish was chosen. But when they looked for him, he was not to be found. So they inquired further of the Lord, “Has the man come here yet?”
And the Lord said, “Yes, he has hidden himself among the baggage.”
They ran and brought him out, and as he stood among the people he was a head taller than any of the others.” 1 Samuel 8:21-23
An inauspicious start. Saul wasn’t so sure about this and hid. They had to drag him to his own coming out party.
Then there was David’s first action:
“David said to Saul, ‘Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.’
[...]
Then he took his staff in hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:32,40
When God chooses you, will you be hiding? Or, will you take the weapons and gear He has given you, and approach the challenge?
Be ready. He will call on you.
