Training for the Race
Being like Jesus is a task you and I will never finish. Does that make it any less of a worthy goal? Absolutely not. While we are here on earth, we are commanded to obey. We will fail, but we cannot give up. Sometimes, I feel like I’m playing whack-a-mole with sin. Just when I confess and repent of one, another one pops up. You will never be perfect. You will never get to check off that “Be like Jesus” task on your to-do list.
However, like professional athletes, we should be looking for every angle and every path to be more like Him. If it means changing what you own, where you live, where you work, what you watch, what you read, or even who you spend time with, make the change. You need to make every effort to be more like Him.
“Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.” 1 Corinthians 9:25-27
Don’t spend your time doing no training or useless training. Find the training that will make you a better spiritual athlete. There is no sport so important that you should forsake the big things. There is, however, a pursuit that is worth forsaking everything in life.
How hard are you training for the race God set out for you?
