Meeting with God
Vulnerability is at the core of growth with God. I don’t believe a man grows closer to God when he shows up to the meeting with rolls of blueprints, files full of contracts, and dressed in a power suit. On the other hand, I don’t believe we grow closer by groveling either. We are, after all, children of a king. Facing up and walking in with respect to speak with a father that knows you better than you know yourself is what it’s all about. The meeting is a relational coming-together, not a negotiation session. When we present ourselves to God, we cannot say anything about anything that He doesn’t already know. We are not there to explain our behavior, but to ask God to help our behavior, where behavior consists of our beliefs, habits, feelings, decisions, and so on. We don’t go into the meeting hoping He will fix our mistakes, but to ask that He come on board to see us through our mistakes and make the best possible outcome from them. We often show up to ask forgiveness, but our relationship with God is such that once we accept Christ for who He is and what He did, we are forgiven. After that, it’s all about becoming more like Him.
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?” Psalm 27:1
