Who’s Typing?
I just spent the last couple of hours doing IT work at my church. It was nothing glamorous. I set up a new printer (this one prints double-sided!) and replaced a keyboard on a laptop (damaged after a spill). Now, I’ve never done a keyboard replacement before and it was quite intricate with many steps, but it was a success. Since that’s fresh in my mind, I can’t help but to compare and contrast that situation with my walk.
In a sense, this replacement is much like what Christ has done for me. The display, body, brain, and other internal components are the same as before, but the part that directs the computer has been changed. We are the same people with the same brains, bodies, and other parts, but we’re being directed by something new.
In another sense, it’s not the keyboard that decides what the computer does. It’s the person typing. Swapping out your parts may not change the direction of your life. It may be all about who you allow to use the keyboard.
“Direct me in the path of your commands,
for there I find delight.” Psalm 119:35
“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8
Who, exactly, is issuing the commands that you follow? Who, exactly, is showing you which way to go?
