Eyes on the Prize
Some days, it is all drudgery. Some days, I feel like I’m sleepwalking through my job. Some days, I’m just on autopilot. I’ll find myself sitting in my car or on the edge of the bed or staring in the mirror and just wondering where it’s all going.
Some days, life just isn’t fun and there’s no light at the end of the tunnel.
In those moments, I’ve had to remind myself that I’m looking in the wrong place for the wrong thing. I realize that I’ve set my sights on the earthly. I’m looking for satisfaction in my job or my daily life. I’m looking for adventure and excitement somewhere between my daily commute and the dinner table.
I’ve lost the energy and passion because I’m misaligned. I need to be headed in the right direction:
“Not that I have already obtained this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14
If you have a hard time following that example, follow the example of someone who is energetic and passionate about Jesus:
“Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you.” Philippians 3:17
Eyes on the prize, men. That’ll keep your tank full.
