A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

My wife was telling me about a study that had made something click for her today. She explained that while in the midst of a trial, our instinct is to be angry at God. But, instead of being angry at where I am, I should be thankful that He is with me there. I needed to hear this. I was reminded that I should be thankful I have a Savior and Guide when I find myself in a dark alley.

We get angry because we think we deserve to avoid trials and troubles. Of course, we don’t get to avoid them. We just get to have God with us during those trials.

God did not promise us a bed of roses. He promised this:

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Sure, I’d rather avoid being in any of the dark alleys of life. But, when I do find myself in one, I’m glad God is right beside me. I won’t be angry about being there. I’ll be thankful for not being alone.
