A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

Bad Move

I was watching a show tonight that involved a fictional leader of a fictional country. It was about his leadership of that country and how it progresses through various crises. He follows God’s direction for most of his life, but then doesn’t like where God is leading anymore and rebels. He declares that he is at war with God.

This is a low percentage move.

You see, if you face God directly and challenge Him, you will lose. Your victories will become losses and your losses will become catastrophic. I am reminded of what Joseph said to his brothers in Egypt:

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Genesis 50:20

This was ultimately fulfilled in the unintentionally prophetic words of Caiaphas during the debate to plot the death of Jesus:

“Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, ‘You know nothing at all! You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.’ ” John 11:49-50

Caiaphas attempted to have Jesus killed to preserve the way of life they had known. Instead, he was simply enabling the prophecy to be fulfilled and was another piece of the puzzle on the road to Jesus’ victory. Jesus was killed and one man died for the people. The whole nation would not perish if they followed Him.

You cannot fight God. You cannot gain an advantage. It’s like flipping a coin with my dad. “Heads, I win. Tails, you lose.”
