A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

We have been doing some serious cleaning of our garage and of the items we store in the house. We’ve made a few trips to Goodwill and we’ve emptied our storage unit. It’s relieving and refreshing to let go of things you don’t need or that will only have value to others. It’s amazing to me how boxes in my garage can make my life feel cluttered.

I was reminded of the parable of the sower. Here, Jesus is explaining to the disciples what the parable means:

“The one who received the seed that feel among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.” Matthew 13:22

You can be saved and, yet, very distracted. The daily worries of life and the draw of wealth choke off the seed of the Word in your life and make you an unfruitful Christian. The stuff I’m getting rid of was taking up space in my head just as if it were sitting in my living room. You learn to live around it, but it’s impeding your growth and progress.

This is not a diatribe aimed and getting you to give everything away and go live in a tent, but it is meant to get you to think about those things in your life that may be distracting. You may think you should hang on to it or even that you NEED it. But, if it’s disrupting your lines of communication with Jesus or holding you back from spiritual growth, it’s time to let it go.

Don’t let your life get choked by stuff.
