Are You Wise?
There’s a family I know that came into a significant inheritance some years back. Up until that point, they had been very much a middle class family. Afterwards, the house got upgraded, the backyard got a pool, they started taking more trips, the ladies were wearing fancier jewelry, and other things changed. But, even then, you could tell it was a middle class family trying to act rich. It was like they decided that being rich was just buying and doing all the things you always wanted, but without any change in responsibility.
When people act the way they really are, you can tell. When the don’t act the way they really are, it can be uncomfortable to watch.
For all the people the world would have me believe to be the wisest among us, most of them don’t act like they are truly wise. They act like how someone who isn’t wise thinks wise people act. It looks like they are faking it. The wise don’t sit atop their mountains of treasure and dole out wisdom for the huddled masses. No, the truly wise are known by their lives and their fruit:
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” James 3:13
If you are truly wise, you won’t worry about telling everyone else. You’ll simply life the life God has in mind for you with humility.
So, are you wise?
