A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

Like most men, my human nature pushes me to place my confidence in those things that I can do myself. I feel confident doing the things I’ve trained to do. I feel confident making an argument for those things I’ve made a point of researching. I feel confident in what I’ve verified for myself.

This confidence is all based on the idea that seeing it with my own eyes is the highest confidence I can have. Of course, that’s not quite true.

I’ve now learned that I can place my confidence in God. I don’t have to understand Him completely. I don’t need to physically see Him or touch Him. And, yet, I have more confidence in Him than in my own eyes and hands.

“When I called, you answered me;
you made me bold and stouthearted.” Psalm 138:3

I have confidence that He will always answer my call. I have confidence that He will lift me up and set me straight every time. My confidence does not come from my own knowledge or training.

He is there. So, I am bold and stouthearted.
