A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

Every day I’ve known Jesus Christ, I’ve realized how little the things and the hurts of this life are worth worrying about. The things won’t come with me and the hurts make me who I am and will be soothed by my Lord. And, with each step, I find it more and more frustrating to watch others consumed by bitterness, anger, or vengeance. The question that keeps coming back to me is, “Why? Does it have any eternal significance? Will it draw you closer to your Maker?”

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:31-32

“For we know him who said, ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ and again,’The Lord will judge his people.’ It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:30-31

In all of these cases, we are committing the sin of distrusting God to balance the books. We feel an urgent need to hang on to some item or the story of some event because we are convinced that if we don’t pursue it, nobody else will. We kid ourselves into thinking that if we don’t make it right, justice won’t be served.

These are all failings, brothers. Leave all of these things at His feet. Be comforted knowing that the debt will be paid and the books will be balanced. Be relaxed knowing that you can simply focus on serving Him and becoming more like Him.

Don’t waste your time with things that won’t matter.
