Dramatic Jolt
Oftentimes, it is the dramatic difference that causes us to change our thinking. A shift that rocks the being and really gains our attention would be like blindfolding a person, walking them to the edge of the Grand Canyon, and then removing the blindfold. The internal jolt that comes from the experience is life-changing and will never be forgotten. It becomes one of those, “I remember the time when…” stories.
Some of these stories cause a reflex reaction for the hearer that causes them to say, “Wow! Unbelievable!” Consider this scripture:
“Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!’ ” John 20:1-2
Wow! Unbelievable? No, not really, because just like the hearer in my example, it isn’t really unbelievable when the jolt is over and the event is described and evidence is presented. We can adjust our thinking.
“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.” John 20:19-20
Take off the blindfold, men, and look at the evidence…
