A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

My son and I have been working through a Critical Thinking course as part of his schooling this year. It’s already been effective in sharpening his mind to be aware of how logical arguments work and how often people communicate in faulty ways. Even understanding the logic that informs you the implication of “A implies B and B is not true” seems to escape most folks (in that case A must not be true). This logic problem trips up many who want to believe in something they call Christianity, but really isn’t.

Paul spoke to this point:

“But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” 1 Corinthians 15:12-14

It is a logical impossibility to believe in the Gospel and claim that there is no resurrection. It is equally impossible to believe in the Gospel, but believe that Jesus is one of many ways to Heaven. It is also equally impossible to believe in the Gospel, but believe Jesus was just a great teacher and nothing more.

If you don’t have a bodily resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, then you have nothing at all. Fortunately, that’s exactly what we have and the Gospel can be relied upon as completely true. Don’t get tripped up by a logical impossibility.
