A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

“Go ahead and believe whatever you want, just don’t push it on me.”

“There should be separation of church and state. Religion and public policy shouldn’t mix.”

“Your religion is a private matter. That’s between you and your god.”

With this kind of attitude as part of a constant pressure on Christians to shut up, it’s not surprising if we fall victim to it a bit. It’s easy to come to the conclusion that you’re being weird or rude by stating your beliefs out loud when everyone around you is telling you to keep it a secret. Is there a wrong way to share Christ? Sure. But, there is a right way, too. I find that it’s just too simple to keep telling myself that the time isn’t right or the situation isn’t right. The truth is that it’ll never be “right”. The time is now.

“Give thanks tot he LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.” Chronicles 16:8

“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.” Luke 8:16

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

We are to go and tell the good news. We are not to hoard it and keep it a secret. We avoid this because we’re afraid we’ll be ridiculed or persecuted. You know what? You’re right. We will be. So what?

“In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,” 2 Timothy 3:12

It’s going to happen if you’re living right. If you’re trying to live a life that minimizes the persecution and minimizes the ridicule, then you’ve got the wrong goals in mind. You’re serving your own pride.

Follow the orders, solider. Tell the good news.
