He is Love and He is Righteous
It is a frequent refrain by non-believers that our God is angry or vindictive. They hear about the wrath of God or the Day of the Lord and consider it evidence for a short-tempered, ruthless deity Who is out to punish and destroy the non-conformist.
Wow, talk about misinterpreting motive! I just read two verses that fly in the face of that characterization:
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.
His love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1
The wrath of God will come to fruition precisely because He is perfect and righteous and must balance the books on the last day. The accounts must be paid before He can open our future home to all of us.
God does not enjoy punishing us. He does not take perverse pleasure in calling in the debts. This is why He sent His Son. This is why He waits to send His Son back!
Even as believers, we can fall prey to the image of the unapproachable, angry Father. That’s not who He is.
Don’t let the enemy drive that wedge. He is Love and is simply waiting for us to figure that out.
