A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

Show Up

My son is learning the valuable lesson that eighty percent of life is just showing up. He volunteers as an AV guy on Sundays and he’s surprised at how often he is asked to help. We keep pointing out that he simply shows up when he’s asked, so they ask him frequently. It would never cross his mind to commit to something and then bail out, but it happens all the time in the real world. So, just showing up, being available, and keeping your commitments will go a long way.

In fact, that’s basically what God is asking of us. Just take the steps, follow through with His direction, and do the work assigned to you. Even the seemingly mundane is a commitment to keep and reflects on our relationship with God.

“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.” Ephesians 6:7-8

Our willingness to just do the work will greatly affect our role after Jesus returns:

” ‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’ ” Luke 19:17

You don’t have to be brilliant or skilled. Just show up. God can only use those who do.
