A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

I read in the news that yet another person was found alive in the rubble in Haiti. It is a credit to the men and women who dig through the wreckage quickly, but safely, to find those who need help. For me, it brings back memories of the many, many heroes who did the same kind of work in New York and Washington, DC on and after 9/11. After seeing so many of these workers do their job and reading about how they go about it, I understand how difficult it would be to balance the desire to help with the need to stay safe.

How many times do you read about the amateur rescuer dying along with the victim? Our desire to help must be tempered with wisdom about being safe and not creating a bigger problem for someone else to fix. I think we need to be smart when trying to rescue our brothers from sin, too.

“Brothers, if someone is caught in sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.” Galatians 6:1

Be careful about helping. Take a friend or two. Ask for advice from your pastor or accountability group. Don’t make yourself another one who needs restoration.

Restore your brother, but don’t take unnecessary risks.
