A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

I am thoroughly convinced of the need to meet with my brothers and sisters in Christ on a regular basis. I was fairly convinced by Scripture, but I am now absolutely certain because of my personal experience. I find myself buoyed and energized every time I go to services or to our house church (a small group of about 40 or so people who meet in a home periodically). Heck, I even find myself buzzed after doing one-on-one mentoring where I’m the one pouring into someone else. The act of meeting together is part of the Christian life and we cannot ignore it.

However, last night, I heard someone point out a truth I had not considered from this Scripture:

“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25

The new angle I heard was embedded in the last phrase. He brought my attention to the fact that not only is meeting together important, but it will become increasingly important as the return of Jesus draws near. We should plan on gathering more often and using that opportunity to build stronger relationships, dive deeper into the Word, and encouraging each other in our respective walks.

So, my conclusion for you, dear reader, is to always consider whether it is time for you to bump it up a notch and spend more time with your spiritual family. Wherever you are may be fine for today, but it may not be sufficient for tomorrow.

Meet all the more.
