A daily dose of spiritual exercise for men in various stages of their Christian walk

Have you ever noticed that no matter how much storage space or garage space you have, stuff seems to fill it up? We seem to attract things that will eventually fill all available space in our lives. The same thing happens to my computers. I buy bigger hard drives and they seem to fill up just as fast.

Of course, in both cases, if you aren’t very careful about what you collect, the vast majority of your stuff or your data will be junk or, at least, worth much less than the space it occupies.

This reminds me over and over about priorities. Whether we notice it or not, we will arrange our lives around our priorities. If you are most concerned about money, then you start with your job schedule and plan everything around that. If you are more concerned about family, you will set blocks of leisure time with them and make the rest of your life fit around that. And, if you consider God to be the top priority, you will set that time in your schedule first and work around it with everything else.

I don’t know about you, but those low priority things on my list have a way of never getting done. It’s not that I don’t want to do them, it’s just that I keep finding much more important things to do with my time. Before you know it, months and years have passed. If God is low on your list, you’ll be amazed how quickly your relationship will atrophy.

Besides, He has promised that if you keep your priorities in order, He’ll help you with the rest of them anyway:

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

It’s kind of a no-brainer and, yet, it takes enormous discipline to do right.

What have you built your life around?
